Are all pallet jack wheels the same?

No, they are different.

First, though, let's differentiate between pallet jacks, also some people called them pallet trucks. Pallet jacks are usually divided into two categories: powered and manual. The default I mentioned next is the manual pallet jacks/ hand pallet jacks.

According to the function, the pallet jacks wheels are divided into steering wheels and load wheels. Steering wheels, literally when you want to operate a pallet jack to change direction, play a vital role. The load wheel is the wheel that plays the main supporting role when the pallet jack is loaded. Generally speaking, the steering wheel is the pair of wheels closest to the operator and is located forward, so it is also called the front wheel of the pallet jack. The load wheel is farther away and is generally called the pallet truck rear wheel.

According to the size, pallet jack wheels are divided into large wheels and small wheels. Usually the pallet jack steering wheel is a large wheel, the models are 1650, 1850 and 2050, and the corresponding dimensions are 160x50mm, 180x50mm, 200x50mm. The load wheel is a small wheel, and the dimensions are 80x50mm, 80x60mm, 80x70mm, 80x80mm, 80x90mm and 80x100mm. Basically, the diameter of the small wheel is fixed, but the length is different.

According to the material, there are generally iron core PU wheels, aluminum core PU wheels, aluminum core rubber wheels, nylon wheels, copolymer wheels, etc.

The most common caster wheel materials in the market are TPE, TPR, TPU. Here let’s talk about their advantages and disadvantages and you will have better understanding on how to choose TPE, TPR , TPU caster materials.

1. TPE material: TPE is environmentally and non-toxic material, with features of excellent wear resistance, elasticity, shock resistance and low noise performance. As it has good adhesion property with hard plastic. It can be coated and formed with hard plastic like PA,PP. TPE material is with great load capacity. Currently, TPE material is widely used for luggage caster,cart caster and industrial caster.

2. TPR: Technically, TPR is TPE because both of them belong to Polystyrene elastomer category. Its characteristics are similar to TPE, However, its elasticity is better than TPE as it is mainly made from SBS and its wear resistance is not as good as TPE. More important, TPR has better price than TPE, it also can be coated and formed with hard plastic like PA,PP. It can be used for heavy duty caster.

3. TPU: With the best wear resistance, good oil resistance, good elasticity and good load capacity, it has the longer service life, but it’s a bit noisy when working and without resistance to hydrolysis. It can be used for luggage caster and various types of industrial caster.

How to choose the above three caster materials?

Actually We are not able state which material is the best one since different caster materials have different advantages. The key to choose ideally caster materials depends on the usage and positioning of products. We seldom use TPE for caster even its price is moderate, mostly we use TPR and TPU. If you want the best wear resistance, then TPU is your best choice; If you want better price, then TPR is the most appropriate choice.

Characteristics of PU casters :

Welding forming, surface galvanizing.

Cast iron casters in today

There are many types of cast iron casters, which are mainly divided by load capactiy level. They can be divided into light duty cast iron casters, medium duty cast iron casters and heavy duty cast iron casters. The applicable range is also very wide. How to install casters with stem

First of all, we need to understand what is a stem caster wheel. The stem is one of the more common ways to install casters. Usually the installed object and the caster are fixedly connected by this rod. Compared with threaded stem and grip ring stem, the installation methods and the structure is simpler. Compared with plate caster wheel, the load-bearing structure is slightly weaker, so it is generally reflected in light duty caster wheel and medium duty caster wheel, which are mainly used in scenes where load-bearing requirements such as furnitures and ordinary platform trolleys are not too large. Of course, for medium duty and heavy duty scenes, the ratio is relatively small.

There are two main types of stem casters. One is a thin T-shaped stem, and some are matched with a threaded sleeve; the other is a cylindrical or square column or other polygonal column. The rod usually has a through hole.

So how to install them? The T-shaped stem is the easiest to install, just plug it directly into the set hole of the object to be installed.  It's the opposite when removing it, just pull it out. For threaded bushings, plug the bushing into the mounting hole first, and then insert the stem into place. The sleeve and the plunger act like expansion screws at this time to prevent the casters from falling off.

The principle of the inserted stem with holes is similar, except that the upper and lower diameters of the stem are the same size. After inserting in place, you need to insert a pin or other accessories into the through hole for fixing to prevent the caster from falling off when the installed object is off the ground.

T-shaped stem casters are generally smaller than columnar ones. They are usually embodied as furniture casters such as chair caster wheels and table caster wheels. Even with brakes, most of them only stop the wheel from rotating and cannot fix the direction of the caster wheel. Column-shaped stem casters are relatively larger, and are generally embodied in small and medium-sized equipment such as trolley caster wheels, shopping cart caster wheels, and even industrial caster wheels such as scaffold caster wheels, or medical caster wheels. Due to the existence of through-holes and bolts and other accessories, this type of stem casters can usually achieve the function of double brakes, while fixing the direction of the wheel and the caster.
